Why is the jump so big?
At IGCSE, you can often get away with memorization and cramming the night before. At A Level, the depth of understanding required is much deeper. Questions are more application-based (especially in Physics and Chemistry), and essays (in Economics and History) require critical analysis rather than just regurgitating facts.
How to survive the transition
- Do not fall behind: At A Level, topics compound. If you don't understand Week 1's content, you will be completely lost by Week 4.
- Read ahead: Skim the textbook chapter before the class. You don't need to understand it fully, but having a mental framework makes the lesson 10x more effective.
